Hello, I'm Jade Mueller PhD and I'm honored to share my experiences with people who've been helped by the practice of psychology. They may have a feeling of loss, guilt, despair, anger or fear. They may be in the midst of a crisis of trauma, family disruption, chronic illness, aging or abuse. Together we look at all of it with 'kind eyes' and without judging. Often we can identify patterns, beliefs and experiences to heal or release that have led to setbacks in the past. They want support in developing or recovering their joy, confidence, self-worth and personal strengths. Clients can evolve toward their own vision of wholeness.

My clinical interests include identity development, family and relationship concerns, trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and substance use.
Sometimes the way you relate to yourself and others no longer aligns with who you truly are, your values or how you envisioned your life. You may feel disconnected from yourself and others. You may feel anxious or misunderstood, and start to question your worth or love. To cope, you wear a mask to hide parts of yourself, which creates feelings of tension within yourself and with others. What if you lived your life according to your values while accepting and expressing your genuine self? I create a judgement free, safe therapeutic space where you can explore, understand and find your authentic self.

I'm trained in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Making the choice to engage in therapy is a good step in the right direction. It can often times make you feel overwhelmed and vulnerable. Do you find yourself struggling with connecting or maintaining healthy relationships or struggling with anxiety, depression, communication or life transitions? Perhaps you struggle with thinking about past experiences and how they may be impacting your life today.

I grew up with the detrimental effects of trauma, pain, and substance use in my family and all around me.
Many people with trauma or PTSD also suffer from substance use issues . Feelings of anxiety, fear, anger, grief, depression, loneliness, feeling judged, and misunderstood are very normal. You may not trust the world around you and may not know how to cope with symptoms of trauma alone and will instead seek to numb your emotional turmoil. Both are lonely and isolating issues. Substance use is an outward manifestation of your pain and with supportive trauma and substance use counseling combined, your addiction can be treated as well as the underline symptoms that cause the need to numb your emotions and avoid your reality.

I offer insight into the family and societal structures we internalize and explore the rules we impose on ourselves.
Hello hello! I work either in-person w/nature in local parks or virtually via zoom! If we walk or sit together, we'll work following your lead with gentle nudges into the abyss (metaphorically, unless you enjoy muddy!), seeing through blinders, and remembering accomplishments. As for me? I'm a human reclaiming my humanity. I'm recovering from the dominating social order of straight, cis-white men steeped in racism, sexism, patriarchy, homophobia, colonialism, ableism and all the oppressions dreaming of an equitable and environmentally friendly society. (deeply & vaguely spiritual, not religious).

I have assisted a number of clients through life transitions, such as starting a family/new job/college/retirement/loss, etc.
My goal is to meet all clients where they are at on their journeys. Through the use of a combination of Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness, my clients have found peace and success in moving forward through difficult life situations. Each client has a unique story; I am determined to discover the story and assist the client in exploring the possibilities of a well balanced life. In providing a safe place to explore the feelings of disappointment, grief, anxiety, depression, and addiction, current and former clients have discovered these temporary vices prevent the client from moving forward.

Imagine being able to focus on yourself without sacrificing the needs of your family.
From the outside, you seem to have it all together. You work really hard on the details, after all, you are responsible for everyone and everything. But you can’t shake the voice inside your head which screams you’re failing. Even though you put everyone’s needs in front of your own, you feel like you’re falling short as a mom. You can’t even remember what your hobbies are, let alone what really makes you happy. You’ve had enough, you don’t think you can keep holding it together.

I believe that a strong family foundation creates the right path for success in life because those are the first interactions and relationships that we witness and experience as children.
Relationships can get tricky at times, and when it becomes too difficult to figure out how to resolve it, seeing a professional trained to help couples and families can be very helpful. Trauma from our past can also affect present romantic, platonic and/or professional relationships. I believe that I am the counselor to help you address those issues and/or concerns if you are ready. It is important for me to let you to know that I will never force an issue to be discussed that you do not feel comfortable discussing.

I enjoy working with trauma survivors while they find a new way of living with their past. I like to look at a person from a system perspective. What system (family or otherwise) did you grow up with? What does that look like now? What changes can you make in your system to create healthier boundaries and more meaningful relationships? Other experience: anxiety, depression, grief. Adults and Couples. Youth considered with family involvement (15+ preferred). I offer telehealth only.

Are you moving towards a transformative place in your life? Do you have trouble saying "no?" Are there people you need to forgive? What part of life has brought you joy? Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
