Something traumatic happened to you. Sometimes, you get triggered and feel like you’re back in the same situation, even though you know you’re not. Whether it was a sexual assault, a car accident, or a natural disaster, today, you’re anxious, depressed, on high alert, and not feeling like yourself. You can’t control it. Frustration is your daily companion as you try to live your life, and it derails you at every turn. You desperately want to move forward in your life, but you just don’t know how. You feel like you’ve tried everything.

I believe that success in psychotherapy ultimately depends on developing a genuine dialogue between you as a person, and me as your therapist. The gentle art of change also means discussing the context of your life-- where you are at now-- and how you got there (including how you developed and maintain the values you live by). Your values provide the "richness" to living. Most of all, the process of psychotherapy means understanding what you've already tried, whether it has worked (or not worked) -- and yes-- what gets in the way of you living a better life.

My approach to clinical work utilizes a solution-focused cognitive behavioral model of therapy. I not only believe in safety and coping skills as the root of personal change but also believe psychotherapy must offer more than the ability to cope. I promote thriving, rather than merely surviving. I aim to help clients reach their fullest potential through engaging dialogue and action. My support of Women for Sobriety confirms that through empowerment, people, become more capable, competent, caring and compassionate.

You feel burdened, like you’re carrying a refrigerator on your back through a land mine- almost anything or anyone could set you off. You hoped Life would be more peaceful, but as time goes on, your anxiety remains deep. Stress plants itself in your bones and reverberates through your whole body. It’s the same, no matter what you try. The voice of failure reverberates in your head. “You won’t make it, so why even try?” It all feels so hopeless.

As a therapist, my speciality is working with the chronic overthinkers. The individuals who feel overwhelmed by life's ambiguity and feel panicked over change. I know how exhausting it is to constantly question your own, and other's, actions. Chronic overthinkers often experience increased levels of anxiety and perfectionism. I am sure you’ve tried all the breathing exercises and self-help book tips and tricks to ease your racing mind, judgmental inner voice, and pounding in your chest, but have not seen lasting results. You deserve to dig deeper and find your peace in a safe and accepting environment, rather than facing it alone.

I am committed to building a safe and trusting relationship with my clients through respect for individual values and beliefs, calm and supportive encouragement and the occasional splash of humor.
Clients come to therapy with individual needs, goals and expectations. Difficult, uncomfortable emotions may have you doubting or criticizing yourself. Perhaps you're ready to explore and heal from recent or long ago painful, traumatic experiences. You may feel growing frustration and hopelessness with a marriage filled with conflict or disconnection. Anxiety or depression create a gnawing feeling of being 'stuck' or lacking direction and purpose. My clients describe my approach as collaborative, compassionate and encouraging, supporting your goals and empowering you through insight, strategies and rediscovery.

I work with adults 25+ in WI and IL. My clients are those who want to do deeper therapeutic work, explore personal growth, and traverse challenging relationship dynamics (familial, romantic, or otherwise). I treat clients experiencing mood disorders, identity issues, anxiety, trauma, grief, life transitions, and those dealing with sexual, relationship, and intimacy problems. Often, a crisis or a crossroads brings folks to therapy and the treatment process allows them to make life-long improvements to the quality of their lives.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
