Less than 16% of therapists in Texas are male, which may very well be why so many men don’t go to therapy. I specialize in men’s issues including fatherhood, life transitions and stigma. Additionally, families often need support when raising their children. I work with families and children through difficult transitional times, such as grief, school anxiety, college transitions, and family communication.

Have you ever felt helpless, hopeless, powerless, worthless, lost, alone or confused? How about angry, hurt, frustrated or sad? Then you are not alone. Counseling helped me and my family after a tragedy to redefine our journey and know that our story was not over. Strangely enough, because of this tragedy, I have learned to live in excitement of what the next page of my story will be. As a therapist, I now have the opportunity to help other people know their story is not over and help to write their next page.

Because of my knowledge of childhood development and attachment, I also work with young adults who are often facing transitions in their life and reflecting on their own family of origin.
Whether you’re looking for therapy for yourself or for your child, therapy is a safe place to share your story, grow in your strengths, and heal. My goal as a therapist is to provide individuals and families a compassionate space to cultivate their strengths, process life experiences, and create change. An empathetic relationship is at the center of my work with each client, which leads to opportunities for reduced shame and increased vulnerability.

Are you feeling unhappy with your life and wishing things would change for the better? Maybe your marriage or love relationship is in trouble and you are repeating the same old patterns - trust issues, anger or feeling distant. Or the source of worry could be problems in the family. Life itself can give you a big roadblock like a deep loss or a career challenge. Have you gotten to the point where the things you have tried haven't helped enough? And talking to even trusted friends has limits. You don't have to be trapped by worry and discouragement. You can have healthier relationships and a happier life.

Not accepting new clients
I offer individual and family counseling.
I believe that therapy is most effective when the therapist and client have a good working relationship. It is very important to me to provide a warm, safe and open climate where we can work well together. I strive to listen carefully to the needs of each of my clients. Together we will set goals and work toward them. I choose methods based on what I feel will be most effective for each individual. I incorporate strengths and resources a person currently possesses, as well as helping to identify new sources of support.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
