My particular expertise is in working with trauma, codependency and addiction.
I thoroughly enjoy helping clients to grow and expand beyond their perceived limitations and to transform pain and suffering into pearls of wisdom and kindness. I believe these pearls cultivate greater self-compassion, which I believe is the key to healing and transformation. All humans have the answers within and it is my deep honor as a therapist to assist with midwiving that innate perfection into this world. "The wound is the place where the light enters you."-Rumi

In therapy, we together establish a collaborative and trusting relationship in which we will set specific goals that you want to address. I use a variety of successful treatment modalities to assist you in dealing with these challenges.

I work closely with individuals who have complex trauma, PTSD, addiction and relational issues.
Many individuals suffer silently when overwhelmed, anxious, depressed or struggle with deeper issues that affect relationships, family, work and daily living. There is hope, acceptance, compassion and healing in therapy. I create a non-judgmental, nurturing, safe space for clients to explore their struggles, process their pain and acquire skills to accomplish set goals. I walk alongside each client to help them regain their power, happiness, peace, confidence and ability to live the life they deserve.

Having worked in Christian ministry, a community mental health agency, and a substance abuse treatment facility, I have served children, teens, adults, and families from all walks of life facing various challenges.
Life is not always easy. Sometimes life is challenging because of circumstances related to our actions; sometimes these challenges are a result of circumstances beyond our control. Regardless, these circumstances do not define us. It is, instead, our response to these circumstances that determines our course. My passion is working with individuals and families who are facing these storms. I love walking with my clients through these storms and into a bright new day. It is my hope that each of my clients will learn not just to weather and survive these storms but rather to conquer and overcome them.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a broad background to help you face relational, occupational, sex addiction and clinical challenges.
Seeking support for life's difficulties can be daunting. Partnering with others as they walk through these difficulties is one of my lifelong passions. Let's begin to investigate your own particular story and see how it can be rewritten. The most important benchmark for each session is establishing an environment of trust and openness. From there, we can work to break through barriers. My goal is to support, educate, counsel and guide you through it all.

I specialize in addiction, anxiety, trauma, marriage counseling, depression and adolescents.
After trauma, we reach for whatever coping skill is closest in order to survive. We may turn to substances, self-harm, intellectualizing, perfectionism, and etc. This helps us soothe, distract, and numb from feelings of shame, guilt, anger & fear. Still, our unprocessed emotions can overwhelm–morphing into anxiety, depression, hyper-vigilance, marriage and relationship concerns. However, this only represents a part of us and our experiences. Through our strengths, we increase our tolerance, release survival skills that no longer serve us, and return to our most liberated and aligned self.

With years of experience in working at an intensive outpatient treatment program for addiction, I have a passion for helping those struggling with substance use and its related issues.
Pause, and take a breath. You are where you need to be in this moment, present and safe. We often struggle with a void, a deep emptiness we often cannot explain. It leaves us feeling like we aren't good enough, unworthy, or alone. It’s time to quiet that voice. You no longer need to suffer alone. I am here to help you find serenity, strength, hope, and courage within yourself. Those demons you have kept inside deserve to be heard, processed, and understood. Let’s work together so you may find authenticity and peace within yourself.

I have worked in the field of addiction for my entire career completing courses in Motivational Interviewing.
I have worked in a variety of settings: prison, inpatient, day treatment, outpatient and private practice. These experiences have made me a well rounded clinician. I offer my clients a safe place to explore often painful issues in a non-judgemental atmosphere. My ideal client is one who has specific goals in therapy and is willing to address them through work in session and exercises they can work on outside of session.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
