I am interested in trauma and lately I used EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) for most of my clients.
My clients are very diverse in age, ethnicity, social economic status, and gender/sexual identity. I would like to be culturally humble and honor your background and identity.

I have a special interest in working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and all types of trauma.
We all experience hardships in our personal lives, professional lives and relationships that can leave us feeling stressed, confused, isolated, anxious or depressed. Many people experience shame about seeing a therapist or feel they should handle emotional or mental issues on their own. I want to reassure you that we can all use a little help sometimes and we aren't meant to go through it alone. My goal in therapy is to create a safe space where my clients can work through the difficulties in life without judgment.

I specialize in offering trauma-informed therapy to LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent adults residing in Missouri. As a queer and trans individual myself, my focus is on co-creating a safe and affirming environment for folks to thrive. I hold space for clients to explore and process their experiences of grief, complex trauma, and challenges stemming from the impacts of living in a traumatic and oppressive society. I particularly enjoy working with queer and neurodiverse individuals who are interested in taking a more deliberate approach to their personal growth and who wish to develop a deeper connection with themselves and their bodies.

I have experience working persons who have experienced childhood and other traumas/PTSD, sexual abuse, obsessiveness/compulsiveness, LGBTQ+-identity exploration, fears and phobias, poor self-image, anxiety, depression, and more.
Life is hard enough without having to go through it alone. No matter who you are or where you are from, my greatest wish for you at the outset is for you to recognize that we all have complications — we could all benefit from growth and healing. As we embrace these realities, we also learn to embrace all of the parts of ourselves, including those that most need our attention and affection. Make no mistake, the path to growth can be difficult. It involves equal parts frustration and exploration, and even a good dose of humor! But when we face ourselves, we may also find that the outcome is beautiful, rewarding, and even enchanting.

I have experience working with adults and adolescents surrounding trauma/PTSD, relationship issues, intimate partner violence, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and more.
It’s no secret that facing what’s been troubling you in counseling can be daunting, so it’s normal to feel nervous or worried about coming. Don’t let that stop you! Our relationship itself will ease that transition, and I will help you. It really is possible to work on things that have previously felt unreachable or inaccessible — the very things that are probably bringing you to counseling in the first place. It won’t always be easy, but together we will come to an understanding of all your parts and experiences, and even discover and grow what makes make you, you!

I work with teens, adults, and couples, addressing issues like relationship and/or marital conflict, family-of-origin issues, spirituality, identity, abuse and trauma.
Everyone has a story, and every story is complex. Maybe you feel exhausted, stuck, alone, or anxious. Maybe you've hit another difficult patch and you're uncertain of where to turn. Maybe your relationships feel harder than they used to, or perhaps you're tired of experiencing chronic shame. The good news is that life doesn't have to be this way forever; real change is possible. Your struggles and your pain are real, and I want you to know that my office is a safe place where we can explore healing together. I work with teens, adults, and couples, and I have received advanced training in EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy).

Have you experienced trauma in your life and seem to struggle with the same situations over and over, not knowing how to stop the vicious cycle. Are your emotions problematic, do you repeat unhealthy behaviors, relationships, have an onslaught of negative thoughts and no matter how successful you have become, you feel like a fake, insecure and if people really knew? How many times have you promised that you will stop, alcohol, drugs and really mean it, want it, yet once again fall short. As a veteran, were you in combat, was your military experience depleting, anxiety provoking and your life never the same? What keeps you stuck?

My areas of specialty are trauma, unhealthy patterns, anxiety and supporting African American people to bring healing, by removing mental health stigmas.
Does it feel like your past has hijacked your present life? Are you struggling to find hope for peace and happiness? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? If you have answered yes to any of these questions...... I am so happy that you are here. Life can be so unpredictable and feel as if your feet have been knocked right from under you without warning. Sometimes to the point where you might think you will never stand steady again. There are many things that are out of our control, however, we can all learn tools that can help us manage and bring balance and healing to our lives restoring that sense of hope.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
