I also enjoy building in narratives, hobbies, video games, tabletop games (such as Dungeons and Dragons), music, art and more.
Are you looking for a genuine human connection? Somebody to create an authentic partnership with, one centered in your own well-being and growth? I enjoy helping clients to actualize their potential, find their voice, and manage their symptoms. I am a big believer in the intricate mind-body connection and cultivating more global wellness rather than just targeting specific symptoms. I love working with adolescents and adults, people who are looking for forward movement in life, a change of emotional scenery. Issues I specialize in include trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, identity, pain/health management and more.

I like to think out side the box, I use sand therapy and art in my sessions.
I have over 25 years experience work with pre teens (middle school), adolescents, women, men and families. I believe we are all unique in our own way, our uniqueness is what makes us special, it's our “super power”. With this belief that we are all so different and unique, I use all this great knowledge I’ve gained over the years and I personalize your therapy. I use different modalities determining on what your needs are. I do not use just one technique for all my clients, I use many and I mold them around you… mold them to your own uniqueness. I give clients a safe, non-judgmental space to deal with their issues.

At Creative Counseling in Colorado, we address these concerns by providing a warm, non-judgmental environment where children feel safe and understood. We use a personalized approach, incorporating play, art, and other creative therapies to make sessions engaging and non-intimidating.

We will use art and dreams as a doorway to your healing.
Life offers us all challenges, and sometimes those challenges may seem unbearable or especially unique. Some of us experience difficulties from the time we are little children- trauma, abuse, neglect. We each have unique abilities and strengths. Sometimes, we have trouble accessing our strengths, but you have gifts in your being that are your gifts and strengths alone. My goal in working with you is to act as a catalyst -to encourage you to find your talents, abilities, and strengths that will serve you in coping with whatever difficulty life has given you.

Each session is unique and tailored according to the client's needs using a variety of techniques and modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Practices, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Art Therapy.
I strongly believe in the protective and positive intention of all challenging emotions and patterns of thought. My goal is to help my clients explore the sources of these patterns, listen to their unmet needs, and then work with these feelings in order to get the need met in a healthy way. I also encourage clients to increase their tolerance of these uncomfortable emotions, which then allows for growth. I validate, support, and accept clients right where they are, while also challenging them to take the lead in their progress and personal growth.

We can talk, make art, explore dreams, and get outside, and I can offer my curiosity, sense of humor, and grounding presence along the way.
Do you long for freedom to show up differently in your relationship with yourself, including your relationship with food, your body, and the way you relate to the natural world? Hello! I'm Sara (she/her). I can help you reconnect with your authenticity and discover self-compassion on your path to liberation from self-limiting beliefs, disordered eating, and fear of the unknown. Together we will learn about the parts of yourself that you know well, the parts that seem at odds with your desires, and the parts you've yet to meet, working to uncover the patterns that keep you stuck, making space for a new story to unfold.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
