Experiencing anxiety can feel isolating, even when surrounded by caring people. You're wearing a smile on the outside; but on the inside, you feel overwhelmed. You worry that your stress is impacting those you love. You've tried different strategies to reduce it. They aren't helping. Deep inside you know there's a better way to live, but you're not sure how to do it. The idea of going to therapy feels vulnerable, but you're willing to try it at this point. You just want to feel better.

I specialize in addressing a range of common challenges and behaviors, such as: Emotion dysregulation, depression, anxiety based disorders (PTSD, phobias, social anxiety, OCD), anger management, shame, and impulsivity, to name a just a few.
Would you like to regain control over your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors? Are you tired of feeling like your emotions dictate your life? If this resonates, you've come to the right place! Often, individuals are aware of the obstacles holding them back but struggle to overcome them. Many find that merely discussing their issues provides temporary relief but fails to yield lasting change. With my expertise we can do more than just talk about what's troubling you. Together, we can work towards eliminating the factors contributing to your suffering, allowing you to regain control and steering your life in the direction you desire.

Facing fears and reflecting inward is tough work, and we are often afraid of what we may find.
I am passionate about helping people who feel overwhelmed by their lives. We live at such a fast pace that we often do not have the space required to slow down to feel our emotions. When we are unable to connect with ourselves, symptoms like anxiety and depression increase. We need help connecting to our bodies, and regulating our nervous systems to slow down enough to move out of fight or flight and into the present moment. Doing so will make it possible to heal from our challenges like anxiety, depression, disordered eating, and chronic illness.

Hey there! Thank you for being here. I work with high-performing Asian Americans and LGBTQ+ folx who struggle with anxiety. I understand that struggling with anxiety is incredibly exhausting. Even though your career may be thriving on the outside, underneath those accomplishments, you might be feeling an overwhelming pressure to constantly do more, work more, and be more. The burden of expectations, responsibilities, and chronic stress can be a lot to handle. Overthinking is keeping you up at night, and you might be noticing a bubbling resentment towards loved ones.

For over 14 years I have worked with individuals, couples, and families struggling with a wide range of issues from depression and anxiety to communication and parenting issues.
Above and beyond all the psychological theories and interventions we therapists use, the most important factor in your successful experience in therapy is the relationship between you and your therapist. Most, if not all, therapists will tell you this and recent scientific research in neurobiology backs it up. This perspective, called "interpersonal neurobiology", creates the foundation of the therapy I give all my clients as we work together to help you understand what you are experiencing and how you can move closer to what you need.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
