I have over 10 years working with victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, sexual abuse and child abuse.
Do you always feel on edge? Did something traumatic happen? Trauma is a disruption to the nervous system that often creates patterns and loops that extend into many areas of a person's life. It can affect our bodies, our minds and the way we relate to other people. Sometimes the way people survive their trauma brings them more pain, adds to the chaos, and reinforces negative beliefs that perpetuate the cycle as well as causing other mental health issues grow- such as depression and anxiety. I work with people of various cultures, sexual orientations, and gender identities and know that trauma is non-discriminatory.

I have worked for years with trauma in many presentations from the obvious traumas of abuse and assault to the subtle traumas that may be difficult to even put into words.
Have you gone through a troubling experience? Is it difficult to move on in the aftermath? Maybe, it feels as if you are always going through challenging life experiences, or a lifetime of distress? Are you ready to do something about it, maybe even desperate to? I would love to help. I understand that one of the hardest things to do can be to ask for help and be willing to receive it. I want to help.

Hi! I’m Kalene. I work with people who find it easy to show compassion to others but struggle to have self-compassion. They're often perfectionists, people-pleasers, helpers, empaths, highly sensitive people (HSPs), and overthinkers. I have additional training and experience in treating anxiety/depression and working with survivors of sexual trauma (including childhood sexual abuse, and assault/rape in adulthood). I find that people in these populations can be particularly vulnerable to being unkind to themselves. I specialize in helping people quiet the inner critic, lessen feelings of shame, and find peace with themselves.

I help folks cope and heal from sexual and relationship trauma. Trauma can fracture who you are as a person. It can make you feel unlike yourself, distant from others, changed forever. This does not have to be permanent. Together, we can build resilience, access your strengths, and let your past stay in the past. Learning to understand your trauma, manage symptoms, change patterns, and increase self-esteem can help you cultivate the life and meaningful relationships that you want. Most of my clients have experienced rape, sexual assault, childhood abuse, systemic oppression, and/or violence from a partner.

I work with couples, adults, and teenagers seeking relief from panic attacks, depression and suicidal thoughts, self harm, gender dysphoria, sexual abuse, and childhood trauma and PTSD.
You’re overwhelmed, overstimulated, and searching for relief, and quite frankly, getting pretty desperate. That "best life" others seem to live feels just beyond reach, with a little progress one day, then sliding all the way back to where you started. It’s exhausting. You logically know you’ve overcome so much, but where is that strength everyone says you have? Together, we can foster compassion for the coping skills you’ve used to survive. These strategies deserve acknowledgment and appreciation because they have kept you alive.

My specialties include trauma, problems related to childhood/family issues, sexual abuse/assault, creating and maintaining fulfilling relationships, depression, anxiety, and attachment issues.
I believe that we each have an innate force that drives us towards wholeness and the fulfillment of our individual potential. However, life experiences can lead to a break from our personal experience of the soul, resulting in a deep sense of loss and isolation from self and others. I work collaboratively with my clients to remove obstacles that block the connection to a deeper experience of the soul and authentic self, and then move towards the realization of a fulfilling and purposeful life. "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I'll meet you there... " Rumi

With an over twenty year healthcare background as a clinical social worker and as a current therapist, I have supported survivors of sexual abuse, sexual assault, and childhood trauma.
In the game of life, a positive mindset is your secret weapon. It turns challenges into opportunities and obstacles into stepping stones. Unfortunately, many individuals find themselves trapped in negativity due to childhood trauma, abusive relationships, or toxic work environments. Making positive life changes starts with understanding your own story and taking courageous steps towards creating a life that brings you joy. My mission is to offer a safe and nurturing environment where you can work through your pain, identify patterns that have kept you feeling stuck and negative, and embark on a journey toward positivity.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
