Life can be challenging and a stressful balancing act which can be exacerbated by low sense of self-worth, anxiety, low mood, loss of a loved one, life transitions, childhood trauma, discrimination or environmental stressors. Or, because you have not been fully represented in spaces that hold power, you question whether you belong despite strong evidence that you do. And, even if you know you belong, you are exposed to microaggressions and discrimination, which impacts your day-to-day life.

Do you feel so overwhelmed by your emotions that you no longer can tell if you control them or if they control you? Or do you feel unhappy, lonely or tired of getting into arguments with your spouse. Are you feeling frustrated when you aren’t feeling like yourself- worried, sad, or unmotivated? Depression, stress, and anxiety can affect everything from work to relationships, not meeting goals, or even trouble completing daily tasks. Sometimes it can be challenging to understand ‘why’ or what is causing the anxious feelings. Other times our relationship takes a toll and it can be challenging to communicate with our partner.

I find great interest helping those that suffer from anxiety, depression, relationship problems, adjustments, and trauma.
Seeking therapy for many can be a challenging step to take. This is why I believe in providing a safe space, free of any judgement, which is essential when building a trusting therapeutic relationship. I am here to serve as your guide towards self-discovery and self-reflection. Often, distorted thoughts lead to maladaptive behaviors, which in turn can impact the way you view yourself, perceives others, and/or view the world. Therapy can help with learning new skills and techniques that can assist you with breaking these patterns. Discovering your own voice will help you feel empowered.

Depression, anxiety, and/or severe adjustment disorders are often part of the stories they tell me about themselves.
There is nothing wrong with you! This is the first and possibly the most surprising thing you will learn from me. You will also learn that it is true, and that will be the most freeing thing you will ever learn from anyone.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families of diverse backgrounds to successfully overcome a variety of problems, including depressive, anxiety, trauma- and stressor-related, eating, obsessive-compulsive, substance use and addictive disorders; difficulties with interpersonal relationships or life transitions; and challenges related to education or employment. However, there is no prerequisite for engaging in therapy, which can be a preemptive measure to care for and strengthen psychological and emotional well-being, a catalyst for personal development and self-actualization, and mechanism to enhance quality of life.

Are your existing coping skills not feeling effective enough? Do you feel overwhelmed often? You might be thriving in some aspects of your life, but feeling unhappy or unfulfilled in other areas. Well, you're not alone. We all struggle with some level of anxiety, stress, burnout, and other difficult feeling states. It's part of being human in this very complex and demanding culture that we live in today. With so many things "to-do," goals to accomplish, and people to please, it's easy to feel disconnected from what truly matters and brings meaning to life. Living on an autopilot survival loop. Can you relate?

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
