Steve (Stephen Arthur) Price of Waterboro, Maine, passed away unexpectedly at Southern Maine Health Care early Sunday morning, June 23, 2024. His wife and partner of 50 years, Susan, was by his side. He will be forever missed for his big smile, generous heart, and naturally caring soul.
Steve was born Dec. 14, 1957, in Lowell, Massachusetts, to parents Martha (Dalton) Price and Arthur G. Price. He grew up in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, and spent most summers in Pittsburg, New Hampshire – where his mom’s family originated from. Steve graduated from Nashoba Valley Tech in Westford, Massachusetts, in 1975. He worked as a tree cutter for years before making the move to build his home in Maine. He could do anything with his hands, whether working on yachts to custom cabinet building. Always there to lend a helping hand, Steve was someone you could count on.
Steve loved nature, animals, and music. He spent as much time outside as possible. Hunting, fishing, and birding were an integral part of who he was. Music was ever-present in Steve’s daily life, listening to Underground Garage or attending shows with his wife and daughter.
Despite having some physical challenges, he never gave up his “action packed” lifestyle. Friends had an expression – “Steve style,” for his relentless drive to always do the best he could, whether it was playing hockey when he was younger, riding motocross, or riding his beloved Ducati Monster.
Steve will be dearly missed by his family and chosen family that included several “surrogate children” that spent lots of time in the family home, where they knew the door was always open to them.
Steve deeply loved his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Daley) Price and daughter, Sophie – the two women he claimed were both “love at first sight.” Steve also leaves behind: his sister, Patricia (Harmon) Tongel and her husband Dave of Charlestown, Rhode Island; brother, John Price of Epson, New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews on both sides of his family.
Steve’s sense of humor and positivity were contagious to those around him. Life sure won’t be the same without him, but we’re all forever grateful for the gift of his time with us.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, July 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., Alfred.
