State and local officials and residents of Jocelyn Place in Scarborough celebrated the grand opening of the 60-unit affordable 55-plus housing community at a June 20 ceremony. The South Portland Housing Authority project at 41 Little Dolphin Drive off Route 1 was designed with accessibility, walkability and convenience in mind and is passive-house certified for energy efficiency. The building was named in honor of John Jocelyn, a writer, botanist and English nobleman, who came to Scarborough in 1663 to visit his brother on Prouts Neck. His visit lasted eight years, according to SPHA. Contributed / South Portland Housing Authority
