Forty-three members of Thornton Academy’s Class of 2024 earned summa cum laude, with a grade point average of 4.0 or better:

Guadalupe Asis received the Honor Roll Award; Excellence in Biology, Digital Design, Senior English; and Achievement in Acting. She plans to return to her home country of Argentina to study law at the University of San Andres, in Buenos Aires.

Troy Bolduc of Saco, a member of the National Honor Society, received the Arts Department Award – Media Arts, The Paul Sullivan Award, and The Endicott College Award. He earned the Honor Roll Award, and was recognized for Excellence in AP Calculus AB, AP Physics C, Honors Algebra 2, Digital Imaging I, Honors Chemistry, Honors Geometry, and Honors Spanish III and IV. He plans to study Film & Television at Boston University.

Jack Bonnette of Saco received the Honor Roll Award and was recognized for Excellence in Freshman English and Physical Science, as well as Achievement in AP Environmental Science, AP Human Geography, Biology, Geometry, Marine Biology, and Personal Finance. He plans to attend the University of New Hampshire.

Amelia Carestia of Saco, is a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Honor Roll Award. She was honored for Excellence in AP Microeconomics, French IV/V Honors, Honors French II, Honors Pre-Calculus, and for Achievement in AP European History. Amelia also received the John P. Deering Scholarship and Mary Alma Stearns Scholarship, and Saint Anselm Book Award. She plans to study International Relations and Chemistry in college.

Alexander Chan of Saco is a member of the National Honor Society, and was recognized for Excellence in AP Human Geography, as well as Achievement in AP Calculus BC, AP Computer Science A, Chemistry Honors, Freshman English, Honors Geometry, Peoples and World Cultures, Principles of Personal Fitness, and Web Design.

Jason Chen of Saco, a member of the National Honor Society, received the University of Rochester Award and the Honor Roll Award. He was recognized for Excellence in multiple classes, including AP Calculus BC, AP Environmental Science, AP European History, AP Microeconomics, AP Physics C, AP US History, and Honors Precalculus. He plans to study Electrical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Jeremiah Chessie of Saco is a member of the National Honor Society and received the George Eastman Young Leaders Award and University of Rochester Award.. He was honored for Excellence in AP American Government and Politics, AP Human Geography, Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors Spanish I, Principles of Personal Fitness. He plans to attend Bowdoin College.

Boston Cochrane of Saco is a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Honor Roll Award. He was recognized for Excellence in AP Physics C, Digital Design, German I Honors, German II Honors, and Introduction to Computer Programming. He plans to study Mechanical Engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Olivia Cote of Saco, a member of the National Honor Society, received the Honor Roll Award and was recognized for Excellence in AP Biology, Honors Spanish III, Honors Pre-Calculus, and Peoples and World Cultures. She plans to attend the University of Massachusetts at Amherst to study Animal Sciences.

Adam Donovan of Saco is a member of the National Honor Society and received the Honor Roll Award. He was honored for Excellence in Anatomy & Physiology Honors, Physics Honors, and Sport Psychology Honors. He plans to study Biochemistry at Salve Regina.

Jack Dumas of Dayton was honored with the John P. Deering Scholarship, President’s Award for Education and Williams College Book Award. In addition to the National Honor Society and Honor Roll Award, Jack was recognized with the Theater Art Award, English Department Award, and the Dominic DiBiase Award. He was also recognized for Excellence in AP Calculus AB, AP Human Geography, AP US History, Chamber Singer, Honors Pre-Calculus, People and World Cultures, Performance and Repertory: Dance Company, and Physics Honors. Jack was also honored with Dance Leadership, Leadership as Dance Aide, and Leadership in TA Players: Drama Club. He plans to attend the University of Southern California to study Game Design and Development.

Nora Freeman of Saco is the class Valedictorian, member of the National Society, earned the Honor Roll Award, and was a decorated member of the TA Swim Team. She received the Alton M. Seavey Scholarship, Dartmouth Book Award, Southwestern Maine Swim Officials Association Annual Scholarship, UMaine Pulp & Paper Foundation Scholarship, and Youth Art Month Award for the Portland Museum of Art. Maia Gustafson of Saco is a member of the National Honor Society, received the Science Department Award and the Honor Roll award, and was recognized for Excellence in Anatomy & Physiology Honors, AP Biology, AP Calculus BC, AP Environmental Science, Honors Physical Science, Honors Spanish I, Junior English Honors, Latin I, Orchestra, and String Orchestra. She was also selected to the Maine All State Orchestra four times. She plans to study Biochemistry at Tufts University.

Danica L Hebert of Dayton is a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Honor Roll Award. She was recognized for Excellence in Personal Finance and Achievement in Algebra II, Peoples and World Cultures, Spanish IV Honors, and Spanish V Honors. She also earned SMAA All-Academic Team and the Maine Field Hockey Association Academic All-State Award. She plans to study Finance at the University of Southern Maine.

Ashley Houde of Saco is a member of the National Honor Society and received the The Robert L. Bowie Scholarship and the Rochester Institute of Technology Award. In addition to the Honor Roll Award, she received Department Awards for History and Mathematics. Ashley was recognized for Excellence in AP Calculus BC, AP Government & Politics: United States, AP Human Geography, AP Physics C, AP US History, Blind Eye of History, Freshman Honors English, Honors Algebra 2, Honors Biology, Honors Physical Science, Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors Spanish II, People and World Cultures, Physics Honors, Honors Spanish III, and Spanish IV Honors. She was also recognized as an SMAA All-Academic, SMAA All-Citizenship, Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, and an Army ROTC 4-year national scholarship recipient. William Jankowski of Dayton is a member of the National Honor Society and received the Honor Roll Award. He was recognized for Excellence in Algebra I, Freshman English, and Physics Honors, and Achievement Algebra II Honors, AP Psychology, CP Physical Science, Honors Geometry, Honors Spanish II, Principles of Personal Fitness, Spanish I, and Senior English Honors. He plans to study Chemistry at University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Hobin Kim of Korea is a member of the National Honor Society and received the Honor Roll Award. Hobin earned Achievement in AP Biology, Chinese III Honors, and Transitional English.

Junseo Kim of Korea received the Honor Roll Award, the Languages Department Award and was recognized for Excellence in AP Chinese and Leadership in Chinese Club.

Youngseo “Kathleen” Kwak of Korea is a member of the National Honor Society. She received the University of Rochester Award and the Honor Roll Award. She was recognized for Excellence in Anatomy & Physiology Honors, AP Biology, AP Microeconomics, Honors Biology, Honors Pre-Calculus, and Psychology. In addition to her studies, she tutored students, published a book, and completed a scientific research journal. She plans to study Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University.

Changhee Lee of Korea is a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Honor Roll Award and was recognized for Excellence in AP Biology and Achievement Spanish III. She authored a Pre-collegiate Global Health Review,  and was founder and president of the Global Explorers of Medical Science. She plans to study Biology in college.

Alyssa Lee of Seongnam-si, South Korea, earned the Honor Roll Award and was recognized for Excellence in Digital Imaging II, Physics, and Sociology, Achievement in Blind Eye of History, Biology, Honors Drawing, and Honors Geometry, as well as summa cum laude in Latin III/IV. She plans to study Economics or Philosophy in college.

Emma Lizotte of Saco received the Honor Roll Award and was recognized for Excellence in AP Human Geography, Maine Fish & Wildlife, and Trees & the Maine Forest. She plans to attend Quinnipiac University on a basketball scholarship.

Rose MacWhinnie of Saco is a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Honor Roll Award. Rose was recognized for Excellence in Blind Eye of History, Biology Honors, Creative Writing, and Modern US History Honors, as well as Achievement in Algebra 1,Honors Algebra II, Honors Sophomore English, Spanish IV Honors, and String Orchestra. She also received the Saco Lodge #2, Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Maine Scholarship. She plans to study Dance at Nazareth University.

Daniel Menard of Saco, a member of the National Honor Society, received the Clarence L. Percy Scholarship and the Clarkson Achievement Award. In addition to the Honor Roll Award, he was recognized for Excellence in French IV/V Honors, Honors French I, Honors Geometry, Principles of Personal Fitness, and People and World Cultures, as well as Achievement in AP Calculus BC, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics C, Honors Algebra 2, Honors French II, and Physics Honors. Daniel plans to study Finance at Villanova University.

Jack Meyer of Saco is a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Honor Roll Award. He was recognized for Excellence AP Environmental Science, as well as Achievement in AP Physics I & II, Honors Spanish I, Marine Biology Honors, and Peoples and World Cultures. He plans to study Chemical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Harper Nasse of Saco, a member of the National Honor Society, received the Rochester Institute of Technology Award and Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution Scholarship. Noir Oliver of Saco received the Melba E. Ramsdell Scholarship, Norman J. Audie Scholarship, and Honor Roll Award. They were also recognized for Excellence in AP Environmental Science, Chemistry, Geometry, Junior English, and Physics, as well as Achievement in Acting II, Blind Eye of History, and Concert Choir. Noir plans to study Horticulture at Southern Maine Community College.

Guinevere Robbins of Saco, a member of the National Honor Society, received the Lowell and Ethelinda Innes Scholarship, The George J. Mitchell Scholarship, and the Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award. In addition to the Honor Roll Award, Guinevere was recognized for Excellence in AP Biology, AP Music Theory, and Chemistry Honors, Achievement in AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, Blind Eye of History, Latin I, Principles of Personal Fitness, Physics Honors, and Orchestra, as well as earning Magna cum laude in Latin II. Sebastian Shields of Saco, a member of the National Honor Society, received the Harry P. Garland Il Scholarship, Order of Ahepa Chapter 252 Scholarship, and Rochester Institute of Technology Award, in addition to earning the Honor Roll Award, the Permanent Art Award, and several swimming honors. He was recognized for Excellence in 3D Art and Animation, AP Art & Design, AP Art & Design: 2D Art, Photography, Digital Imaging II, and Excellence Peoples & World Cultures, as well as cum laude in Latin II. Sebastian plans to study Industrial Design at Virginia Tech.

Cailey Sommer of Dayton, a member of the National Honor Society, received the Anne M. Scigliano Memorial Scholarship, Clarkson Leadership Award, and Honor Roll Award. In addition to the Honor Roll Award, she was recognized for Excellence in AP Microeconomics., AP Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Honors Homeric Greek I, and Sport Nutrition Honors, as well as summa cum laude in Honors Latin II, III/IV. Hadley plans to study International Business and Logistics at Maine Maritime Academy.

Danielle Stuart of Dayton received the John S. Locke Scholarship, The Laurence S. Garland Scholarship, and the Honor Roll Award. She was recognized for Excellence in Biology, Chamber Singers, Economics, Honors Sophomore English, Honors Spanish II, Junior English Honors, Physics Honors, and Visual Arts 1, as well as Achievement in Concert Choir, Modern US History Honors, and Treble Choir. She plans to study Pediatric Occupational Therapy at Husson University.

Veronika Sulak of Saco received the Honor Roll Award and was recognized for Excellence in AP Microeconomics, AP Physics I & II, English 4, French IV/V Honors,Modern US History, and Senior English, as well as for Achievement in French IV/V Honors. She plans to study International Business in college.

Sol Thomas of Kennebunkport is a member of the National Honor Society and received the Honor Roll Award. He was also recognized for Excellence in Acting 1, America’s Response to a Changing World, Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Senior English, Honors Algebra 1, Honors Sophomore English, Honors Spanish I, and Honors Spanish II. Sol was also chosen for the American Choral Directors Association National and Eastern Honors Choir. He plans to study Vocal Performance at Northwestern University.

Charlotte J. Townsend of Saco, a member of the National Honor Society, received the TA Community Leadership Award, The Pillar Scholarship, and Smith College Award. In addition to the Honor Roll Award, she was recognized for Excellence in Honors Junior English, Personal Finance, Psychology, Sociology, and Spanish IV Honors, as well as Achievement in AP American Government and Politics, Digital Imaging I, Honors Spanish I, Physics Honors, and Principles of Personal Fitness. She plans to study Early Education at the University of Farmington.

Wyatt Williams of Saco is a member of the National Honor Society and received the Rochester Institute of Technology Award, The Cleaves Scholarship, and the Honor Roll Award. He was recognized for Excellence Algebra II Honors, AP Human Geography, Ceramics, Concert Choir, Junior English, Modern US History Honors, and Physics Honors. Wyatt is also an Eagle Scout. He plans to study Mechanical Engineering at University of Maine.

Annabelle Winans of Arundel, a member of the National Honor Society, received the Saint Michael’s College Award and The Erwin C. Warren and Yvette L. Warren Scholarship. In addition to the Honor Roll Award, she was recognized for Excellence in AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, Honors Biology, and Peoples & World Cultures. Annabelle plans to major in Finance at Northeastern University.
