First Congregational UCC has Pride
The First Congregational Church of Gray-UCC voted to become an Open and Affirming Community of Faith of the United Church of Christ, stating that it welcomes all people into the church and community “regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.” The UCC Open and Affirming Coalition certified the church.
The church is collaborating with the North Yarmouth Congregational Church to host a Pride worship service outdoors at the North Yarmouth Church at 3 Gray Road on June 30 as an opportunity for community members to celebrate the new designation. Attendees can arrive at 3 p.m. to participate in making banners. The service begins at 4 p.m.

Grave initiative
Join a group of volunteers cleaning gravestones at the Gray Village Cemetery. The group will meet on the second Wednesday of each month through the fall.
The first meetings will include instruction on the tools, equipment and methods for safe cleaning. Participants are only asked to wear comfortable clothing and sunscreen. All tools and equipment will be provided by the Gray Cemetery Association.

Interlibrary loans on hold
The state’s interlibrary loan system has been suspended due to contract negotiations. It is unknown when it will be resolved.
Patrons at the library may still use its online catalog to put items on hold at the Gray Public Library. To suggest items to add to the library’s collection, fill out a collection request form at tiny.cc/k9beyz.

‘Make Your Own Mystery’
The library will host a “Make Your Own Mystery” event with Maine authors Richard Cass, Barbara Ross and Julia Spencer-Fleming taking audience ideas and building a mystery novel in real time.
Audience members can suggest weapons, motives, locations, character names and more, and get insight into how these stories are written.
The free event will be at 6:30 p.m. July 25. The authors’ books will be available to buy and be signed. For more information, contact 207-657-4110 or graylib@graymaine.org.
Fundraiser for Durgin
A dance and a live and silent auction for Legion family member Ben Durgin will take place Friday, June 28, from 7 to 10 p.m. at American Legion Post 86 at 15 Lewiston Road. The Jon Giancola Band will perform. For more information, call 835-9719.
