Resident celebrates 100 years
Barbara Clarke Tolman of Windham turned 100 years old on May 10. She got a visit from Rep. Barbara Bagshaw, R-Windham, and Rep. Jane Pringle, D-Windham, who presented a Legislative Sentiment honoring her.
“Barbara’s wish was to receive 100 birthday cards before her birthday celebration,” Bagshaw said in a press release. “The count was up to 135 by the time she celebrated with many, many friends. Recognition from the people of Maine helped add to that total.”
Memorial Day festivities
Join the American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 as they host this year’s annual Memorial Day events on Monday, May 27. The day kicks off with a parade starting at 9 a.m. The route starts at Town Hall and will then go down Route 202 to conclude at Windham High School.
Following the parade, at 10 a.m., there will be a ceremony and remembrance at the high school where a bell will be tolled in memory of veterans who lost their lives last year. At noon, the Post will welcome the public to an open house and luncheon picnic at the Windham Veterans Center, located behind the Hannaford store in North Windham.
Pastoral painting class
Local artist Jude Valentine will teach a course on Plein Air Painting on Fridays in June at the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals farm at 279 River Road.
Painters of all skills are welcome. The workshops cost $147 and a portion of proceeds are donated to MSSPA. To learn more, go to judevalentine.com/shop.

Cancer support meeting
The regular meeting of the Windham Cancer Support Group will take place on Tuesday, May 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the public library. Anyone affected by the disease is welcome to attend.
Free community dinners
Four local churches work with the Wayside Food Program to offer free community dinners on Thursday nights from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The following dinners are coming up: On May 30, Our Lady of Perpetual Hope is hosting the dinner at Windham Hill United Church of Christ, 140 Windham Center Road; on June 6, Windham Hill UCC will be the host, again at Windham Hill UCC; on June 13, St. Ann’s Episcopal Church will greet guests at the church at 40 Windham Center Road; and on June 20, Faith Lutheran Church will host a dinner at St. Ann’s.
