Accomplishments

Since being sworn into office in January 2021, Commissioner Mapps has worked to build a stronger and more resilient Portland. Some of his accomplishments include: 

Public Safety/Livability 

  • Instituted innovative new technologies to reduce 911 wait time. - LINK
  • Initiated transition of non-emergency calls to 311, reducing 911 calls
  • Grew training pipeline to increase staffing levels at Bureau of Emergency Communication
  • Spearheaded PBOT parking enforcement overhaul - LINK

  • Delivered dozens of new traffic safety cameras. - LINK

Economic Recovery and Vitality 

  • Started PBOT food truck pilot - LINK
  • Began Parking Garage Promotion Program
  • Oversaw restoration of Mt. Tabor Reservoir- LINK

Bureau Management/Good Governance 

  • Closed over $32 million PBOT budget shortfall 
  • Improved labor relations and championed safer working conditions for city employees

  • Brought forth Smart discount program which automates up to 80% discount on sewer and stormwater bills – LINK
  • Championed advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) to bring water meters into the 21st century
