Biden to deliver State of the Union address on March 7
March 7 is considered relatively late in the calendar for the annual address to a joint session of Congress.
President Joe Biden on Saturday confirmed he will deliver the final State of the Union address of his term on March 7.
“In this moment of great challenge for our country, it is my solemn duty to extend this invitation … so that you may fulfill your obligation under the U.S. constitution to report on the state of our union,” Speaker Mike Johnson wrote in a letter formally inviting the president to address a joint session of Congress.
“Looking forward to it, Mr. Speaker,” Biden said in a response on X, formerly known as Twitter.
March 7 is considered relatively late in the calendar for the annual address. Biden’s 2023 address fell on Feb 7. In 2022, he delivered his address March 1. Super Tuesday falls March 5 this year.
Biden is expected to outline his administration’s policy achievements and priorities in the address. Last year, his speech focused on the nation’s economic recovery following the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
The president’s speech is typically followed by a rebuttal from the opposing party; Republicans have not yet announced their speaker.
