Tony Walton, costume designer for the film The Wiz (1978), enlisted the help of New York's biggest fashion designers for the hundreds of costumes for the Emerald City sequence.The scene was shot in the plaza between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in NYC.

Some people on Twitter are upset that "The Wiz Live!" musical features an all-Black cast. Really.

The cast of the film, The Wiz: Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, Nipsey Russell as the Tin Man, Diana Ross as Dorothy, and Ted Ross as the Cowardly Lion. Although considered a critical and commercial failure, marking the end of blaxplotation films and steering Hollywood studios away from producing all-black film projects for a while, the film is periodically broadcast on television, often on Thanksgiving Day, and considered a classic in many African American households.

Although NBC is set to release a revival of the 1978 cult classic The Wiz, one has to wonder if anyone can really outdo Diana Ross skipping down a yellow-brick road in metallic block-heeled pumps with such grace.
