This is an example of a side light image. The use of side lighting only illuminates half of her face. This effect gives the image a different depth than the other types of lighting. Therefore it gives the picture a dark and ominous feeling. Also, her stoic look makes you wonder what the other side of her face may look like.

Assignment dealing with using hard lighting and soft lighting for portraits. For Hard light, we set up the photo studio and used scoop lighting as the only source of light.

I used a single LED light with a custom made snoot attachment to light the models face in this 35mm film studio portrait shoot. Light. This has an unusual lighting because we are bias into thinking that the light source that are centered and from above is normal. However, in this photo, the light source comes from the bottom, shadowing the top of the model's face. This type of lighting creates an eerie essence for the model.
