Principles of design in nature

I have taken photographs to show visual examples of the elements and principles of design. After I assembled my images, I composed them into two posters using graphic design techniques with definitions and sentences for each image.

If I were still teaching this fall, I would begin with a variety of lessons, at different grade levels, all using images from nature, in particular those that show rhythm, movement, pattern, and repetition. (Though it would be also hard to ignore some texture, color, shape, form, balance, contrast, harmony, value, etc.) The fact is, when I started editing photos I shot this summer, those particular elements I picked out above repeated themselves over and over again in the images from my…

Appreciating architecture is closely related to the knowledge of principles of design. Complicated as they sound, under the guidance of dedicated lessons children quickly recognise the aesthetic values of architecture. Building upon the lessons, children can benefit from the knowledge to get to know art at a later stage.
