My project focuses on physical development by the way a person sits. Through the picture’s personal narration I try to capture the mental development of the individual, along with physical, in their understanding of how well they are able to sit. I give life to tables, couches, chairs as they are used for support, assigning them the role they play in people’s lives. When Marblehead, Massachusetts-based photographer Rick Ashley visited Disney World with his wife and her then-12-year-old brother Michael, who has Down Syndrome, he observed the way people stared at Michael, and the way the boy retreated inwards during such moments of alienation.
