She was born Isabel Apolonia García Hernández in Central Lugareño, Camagüey, Cuba, to a Cuban father and Mexican mother. She started her dancing career in Havana and then in Paris. Her first film was an Italian film in 1959 called Nel segno di Roma which starred Anita Ekberg. In the 1960s she became a sex symbol.
