We have been studying the different types of government that can be found around the world today and throughout history. The most common include, Anarchy, Monarchy, Dictatorship, Oligarchy, Theocracy, Democracy, and Republic. Checks and Balances is to keep one branch of government from overpowering the others. Each branch is restrained by the other two in some way. The Executive can nominate judges and veto congressional legislation. The Legislative confirms judges, controls the budget, can pass laws over president's veto, and impeach the president. Judicial can declare laws and presidential acts as unconstitutional. I choose this photo because it is a good picture to remember what checks and balances represents.
