It’s a tool used to trim on that helps to hold the pot in place whilst keeping its rim perfectly round. After each use its soaked in water, wrapped up in plastic and stored away in an airtight box. It helps the most for repetition trimming, as the chuck gets fastened on the wheel and then the pots quickly go on, get trimmed, and come off.
