Henry's Waffle House: Bike Brands Need to Get A Grip
Tyres, saddle, grips are parts with most personal preferences, but in the same time they are not expensive. And buying a new bike you should just put this upgrade into the budget. And in some cases extend the budget for stem and handlebar. 5-10% of the budget should be allocated to those upgrades. So if you budget is 5k, then bike you're buying should be around 4,5-4,7k. Unfortunately in mountain biking there is no "one size fits all".

First Ride: Specialized's New Chisel FS Cross-Country Bike - Aluminum Done Light
In manual there is a mention of Evo with 120/130 travel. I assume it's just changing shock stroke to 45 and putting 130 fork, and we have alloy Epic Evo.

Value Field Test: Cannondale Habit 4 - Good Geometry, Not So Good Components
Those aren't low quality components. They just entry level xc components that fit nicely to a budget xc bike or a bike for fitness. Even rs 35 (definitely not the best fork) would be a better choice. Same goes for db8 brakes. And probably would cost almost the same for the manufacturer.

First Ride: Canyon Neuron:ONfly - a Lighter 140mm eMTB
manufacturers, please, if you want to do cable tourism, do it at least harmful way: organise brake line NOT thought headset and preferably dropper post line as well. e-bike controller could be thought headset as it should be easy to disconnect, and gear shirting is more and more wireless.

Review: The Pivot Shadowcat is Niche & Nimble
To preserve geometry you need to look more at axle to crown distance than to fork travel. Still will be some differences as sagged 160 (27.5) and 140 (29) could be different, and unsagged the same. But will you fill this 4mm difference? Additionally axle to crown difference from manufacturer to manufacturer, for example RS Lyric 150 has close to Ohlins 140 axle to crown distance (both 29).
