Video: Specialized Epic 8 vs Pinarello Dogma XC - World Cup & Olympic Medal Winning Bikes Compared
That Specialized Epic has the same HA as the V1 Ripmo which was winning EWS not all that long ago. I when I got my Ripmo in 2018, coming off a purebred XC Scalpel, people thought I was crazy when I said the HA didn’t negatively affect my climbing, and actually made it easier going over some tech features. I put on XC tires and put my climb lever in the middle position and pretty much was within a few seconds on Strava climbs, with enduro worthy tires my average times were 1-2 mph slower for reference. 6 years later World Cup XC races are being contested on pretty much the same geometry. I’m not surprised that the bike evolution got us here despite many XC racers sayin that you could never win XCO with 67-68 degree HAs because they can’t climb. Meanwhile, I’ve modded my V1 to be at 64.5 HA with no detriment to the climbs. I wonder if/ when XC bikes will settle into 64.5.

Ibis Releases New 130mm Ripley
FFS just size down. At 6’1” it was always ridiculous that I was on the biggest frames. I’ll be happy to just get a large so real tall people can fit an XL.

Ibis Releases New 130mm Ripley
The old frame was pretty much as heavy as the Ripmo, with the frameset weight being lighter due to the difference in rear shock weight from inline to piggyback. However, both the Ripley and Ripmo added a bunch of heft with the frame storage. It is unfortunate as the Pork Chop did a better frame storage than in tube storage. While you still can use a Pork Chop, now you are stuck with the extra frame weight. The Ripmo is now 1/10th of a pound lighter than the HD6, with the HD6 having a 1/2lb heavier shock. You can thank all the web reviews listing no frame storage as a con for this change.

First Ride: Ibis Ripmo - Now With Downtube Storage & Mixed Wheel Compatibility
I’ll never argue with a good craft made vanilla bean ice cream. A good one always has more flavor than you’d expect.

Leatt Launch Magnesium Pedals, Stems and Bar-Grip Combos - Eurobike 2024
Their enduro pedal actually looks like it could have a place in the mix. The trail XT and XTR pedals IMO are stupid as that platform is non-functional, just adds weight, and you have to step up to the Saint for any real platform. The saints are a bit heavy to lug around all day climbing.

First Ride: The 2025 Specialized Stumpjumper Has a New Dual Chamber Air Shock
These new 150/160 bikes pedal so well and are not much heavier than a 130/140 bike where the weight is usually mostly in tire choice, it’s really hard for a product manager to justify having another sku when they ride both and can barely see a benefit for a lighter bike. Meanwhile, the bigger bike can handle whatever trail you choose or be tuned to ride awesome on XC trails.

DH Field Test: Intense M1 - For Your Gnarliest Trails
As an owner of the OG Intense Tracer from the early aughts, I’m psyched to see the return of aluminum Intense frames. I would love to see them open up their CA production again. Those beautiful welds and the ability to have a 69 degree HA in that era on a short travel trail bike gave you all sorts of confidence on steep terrain. Welcome back, Intense!
