I'd find the biggest challenges racing down there is lack of ability, lack of fitness and a 7 year old bike I spent about 3 minutes setting up. Other than that, I can't see why I wouldn't win if I were racing.
I'll go out on a sturdy limb and say it wouldn't help much. Full sun puts out roughly 3000-5000 lumens per square foot, so you're going to need an insanely powerful light to make any kind of meaningful difference in the shadows.
Looooose math: let's say you want to see 12ft of a berm, 3ft wide, so 36sq/ft....you'd need 144,000 lumen light (using the mid-range of 4000L/sq/ft) to just match the light produced by the sun.
So yeah, probably better to just let er buck and pray you remember as many cheeky roots as you can.
With the amount of money, time and energy some teams invest on winning races you'd think someone would have found some special goggles or glasses to help see in between the sun lit patches and dark shadows, i mean they've had night vision equipment for a while now.
Could you wear your night-riding set-up, with handlebar and helmet lights to illuminate the track just ahead of you?
Is that allowed?
Seems useful on a track like this...
