PRESS RELEASE: YT Inudustries

Whenever the YT Play was taken to a contest it always attracted attention. As of today, the carbon slopestyle fully is available in a limited edition of 25 bikes in Europe.

YT does not care about rules. No one would stick to them anyway. Young Talents live uncaged! But still, the guys at YT want to play. And the YT Play demonstrates what happens when they play hard: a slopestyle fully made of carbon. Lightweight and agile to support you on flips, drops and spins. Sturdy and reliable to stave off heavy landings.

Ale Di Lullo. YT Industries PLAY Heritage Edition

And there is no better time than the 10-year anniversary of YT to celebrate the Play. The heritage bike will be available as a limited edition of 25 pieces in Europe exclusively. This Play is a true collector's edition for slopestyle freaks, all the Young Talents out there and anyone who wants to go as hard as the YT team riders.

Frame
The Play proves what’s possible with carbon. As a full suspension bike it is as lightweight as a dirt hardtail made of aluminum. So, you get the bike easily in the air and can handle it when smashing jumps and tricks. At the same time, we designed a frame that is sturdy enough to withstand the demands of the slopestyle category. The frame comes with a concentric BB pivot system that allows you to run single speed. The Play also features an integrated chain tensioner to keep the rear wheel locked in place.

A special feature is the complex bearing technology. On the main pivot, we added large axial angular roller bearings, mostly used in the automotive industry. In combination with the compact front and rear triangles, the bearings are responsible for the high rigidity of the frame. That's why the Play directly transforms your impulses, allowing you to ride on point.

YT Industries PLAY Heritage Edition

100mm of rear suspension make the Play both durable and forgiving enough for heavy landings. These features turn the Play into a nimble and reliable dirt bike that pushes you to the next level.

Play Specs
For big jumps, big tricks and lots of style you need reliable components that give control. When it’s getting serious the RockShox Pike DJ 26 and RockShox Monarch RT3 damper with 100mm suspension take up the fight with anything. Little brother to the award-winning RockShox Pike the DJ 26 fits perfect for the PLAY as you can adjust it easily and very tight. As one of the most lightweight Pikes on the market you will love the DJ 26 for barspins and tailwhips. The powerful RockShox Monarch RT3 damper provides 100mm rear suspension to soak up heavy landings and to give more traction.

As a slopestyler needs a reliable crankset we choose the E13 LG1r. Specifically designed for DH bikes it offers anything to get rowdy in the dirt park. Made of carbon the crank arms are both stiff and lightweight – something you will notice while pushing to the next big jump.

HA 70* hahaha what decade is this?
Make a 29 version, you’d have a winner.
No water bottle mounts? I’m out
Obligatory, for that price I could buy 2 YTs

obviously you are not a dirt jumper, why comment on this bike. 70 degree HA is spot on. think barspins !
  • 7 1
Did you see how short is the chainstay? This bike is for ants.
  • 1 0
bringing the shoe game on. offering limited editions/color combos etc????
  • 2 2
70 is awesome for a DJ. I know because I have two hardtail DJs with 70 or more. And a Dirt Jumper doesn't need bottle mounts. They aren't for miles, they're for bike parks and jumps.

YT: Please make a cheap AL bike that's good for DS racing and fun.
  • 13 0
They have dirt love, but we want some full suspension cheap dj ds bike
  • 1 0
@sessionlession: Yes exactly - it was too late for me to edit in "Suspension"
  • 3 1
@endlessblockades: and make more than one size fits all
  • 3 0
make one like a Banshee Rampant!
  • 32 3
YT really needs a new headtube badge.
  • 7 1
 Y
THO?
  • 21 0
My biggest surprise was the MSRP at the bottom, and in a good way. Mind you I don't buy slope biks..... ever. But seems reasonable for a very limited production carbon, full build.
  • 17 1
They'd be better auctioning off the 25 bikes and using that money to produce more Capras so people could actually have a shot at getting one!
  • 1 0
Finally got a hold of one, and I couldn't be happier!
  • 2 0
It takes 6 months at least to organise new production, so no point trying to make more 2018 models when 2019 bikes will be getting prep'd for production now.
  • 17 1
Is it black only?? I’d really like one in yt
  • 5 1
That is a fine quality pun, sir. Well done.

 You mean BLCK?

You can have any colour of the spectrum set at 0.

"YT does not care about rules..." except for that one about only selling this in Europe, that rule is not to be F---'d with
  • 13 0
Boy, only making 25? Gonna have worse out-of-stock problems than ever... Wink Razz
  • 45 1
Based on the "it's always sold out model" they have, I've always assumed they make just 25 of each size run for their other models.
  • 1 0
@ryan83: WINNER! So that explains why I could never find a Capra in XXL or XL, or at least a Jeffsy, or well, anything. Thanks for that clarification. lol
  • 9 0
80deg seat angle?? wow this must climb like a homesick angel/scolded squirrel/team rocket blasting off again!
  • 2 0
Say it, I dare you, c'mon!
"Mountain goat?"
Dammit!

Now that lips have gotten steeper we really need the proper seat tube angle to match.
  • 9 2
Limited run, aka, buy the rest of the single production run we're doing for the athlete bikes and hope to god you never need a warranty.
  • 5 1
Why just 25 and why not in america?!

Hopefully they decide to put this into production next season or at some point.
  • 5 1
My guess is that this was originally a team-only model so they planned to produce only a few. So instead of the expensive but durable steel molds used for mass production they cut investments a little and machined the molds out of aluminium. Now that the pros have their bikes they figured they can get another 25 products out of these molds before they're scrap. I honestly doubt they'd do larger series of these in the future. That is, out of carbon using the more expensive steel molds. I do expect they'd release the aluminium Play again. I think it used to be a popular model back then and it will be again when it returns to the market.

This bike is kinda expensive but on the other hand it's very great slope style bike. I've seen some slopestyle bikes here also: www.morpheusbikes.com. I've visited there site a while ago while reading this article because I'm a little bit curious about the specs of other bikes.

 Need? Nope. Want? Yup!
  • 1 0
"The Play also features an integrated chain tensioner to keep the rear wheel locked in place."

How does a chain tensioner keep the rear wheel locked in place?
  • 1 0
Probably small setscrews so the rear wheel doesn’t move in the horisontal dropouts under heavy loads on the driveside.
  • 1 0
on horizontal dropouts the wheel can slip forward due to not enough friction on the drop outs when the force of pedaling drives the wheel. The chain tensioner would prevent the wheel from moving from having a solid force for it to force against if the wheel wanted to move forward. Of course removing paint from a dropout so the surface has adequate friction to allow the bolt to grip to prevents this also.
  • 5 1
 Europe only!?!?
  • 56 0
Well you did just start a trade war!
  • 9 1
 @km79: LMAO!
  • 1 0
I'll sell you one for the low-low price of 9000 euros
  • 6 4
I hope they release this 26" in aluminum and the bicycle industry as we know it today implodes.
  • 9 2
You honestly think a slopestyle bike is what is going to bring down the bike industry?? Big Grin
  • 4 1
 ENDURO IS DEAD
  • 4 3
27.5 is vastly superior to 26.
I don't know why but it must be.
All bikes have them.
Maybe 26 inch wheels are lighter and stronger.
Who would want that?
  • 6 2
"27.5 is vastly superior to 26". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Only if you like keeping both wheels on the ground more than in the air. sounds boring
  • 6 0
@eyeslide: I see your less than familiar with the concept of sarcasm.

  • 3 0
 50mm stem? Slopestyle?
  • 3 0
Cheap wheels and wire bead tyres too. So close to being an absolutely dialed build. EX471 rims, folding Ikon's tubeless and the seatpost and bars cut down and you're looking at just below 10kgs. If their 10.7kg quoted weight includes a front brake too then that's about 9.5kg for the build if you take it off, that's nuts!
  • 2 0
The yt dirtjumpers have been sold out in the states since 2015.

  • 13 1
