Shaums March and Marin Bikes came to town and went huge with a very successful bike skills camp.
Venture Gear of Kelowna and MTBco delivered good times for local riders. Marin Bikes brought a bunch of their demo full suspension rigs which riders of all ages and skill levels excitedly took advantage of. There were three skills camps - beginner, intermediate and advanced, and every one of them was rammed with demo rides. Following a bike fit and set up session for each rider, Shaums took the riders down Gillard's "Snakes Back" trail, a perfect choice as it is fairly mellow with a few hits to work on.A couple of things stood out - Shaum's level of attention to detail with bike fit and set up, spending 30 minutes in the Venture Gear parking lot before loading up the bikes and riders, and his great skills when working with with youth. One young ripper was stoked to have his brakes adjusted for a much better reach and position. Another girl ripper got good advice on riding position and cornering. Another rider said "that was the best bike skills session I've ever had".
Word is out that Shaums also got himself a rip down the awesome new "Rubber Down" trail. When he got back to Venture Gear after the last run, a well deserved cold brew was waiting for him. I asked Shaums how the day had gone all he could manage was
"great riders, great trails, great day, great times". The guy was full on and did not stop all day long! I saw him the next day at Silver Star on a girls skills camp and it was exactly the same deal - awesome attention to detail, checking bike set up, and making sure he got a good understanding of each rider.
Thanks to the crew from Venture Gear,
Marin Bikes and the
MTBco BBQ volunteers. MTBco also donated leftover food to the Kelowna Foodbank. Thanks also to Kelowna based Enquiro for their KFB donation.
