Moving the goalposts

They keep on moving the goalposts. Perhaps you, too, have noticed this. If you haven’t, allow me to explain what I mean. First, there were the calls for Biden to step aside. Biden can’t win, they said. He will never be able to hold another interview again!

Biden held many more interviews. The day after the debate, he was in North Carolina and spoke strongly and boldly.

But wait, the media lamented. He’s reading off teleprompters!

The fact that nearly every candidate running for ANYTHING speaks off teleprompters when they make speeches was utterly forgotten. Listening to these breathless pundits, one would think only Biden had done this.

Then Biden spoke without teleprompters.

But wait! He MUST sit down and do an interview the whole world can see.

So Biden did. He sat down with ABC. He did a fine interview, but…

Wait, wait, cried the mirrors on the wall. Who in the polls is the fairest of all?

Biden. [Polls showed Biden had taken the lead in swing state after swing state and blunted Trump’s lead in other swing states.)

Wait, wait, they cried piously. OTHER polls say Trump’s ahead!

That’s because polls have been around for decades, and many of them show different results.

Wait, wait, cried the fickle frenemies. Kamala, Kamala, she needs to step up!

VP Harris said she is standing with Biden.

Wait! The lament filled the air with bitter music as pundits scrambled for equilibrium.

Joe has to go, they cried out not so softly.

Why EVERYONE says it!

This eerie “everyone” does not exist.

Many DID appear on TV segments, and they said Biden should stay in the race — or at least most of them did. The ones who matter did.

But wait, wait, wait, the despairing dancers called out, “What about — what about — what about — what about……..”

This is what matters to them. They will always finds something. Drama, EVEN more than RATINGS, is their name. Drama lives within them, and whatever they say or whatever they do, we must shrug it off and continue to ride with Biden. Donate to Palmer Report
