5 things we want to see in the 'Devil Wears Prada' sequel
20th Century Fox
Gird your loins, a Devil Wears Prada sequel is reportedly in the works!
A sequel to the iconic 2006 film starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci is reportedly being made with the original film's screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) set to return to write the new script.
While Deadline reports that no actors are confirmed for the new movie, Puck, which originated the report, says that producer Wendy Finerman, who produced the original, has convinced Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt to sign on for the sequel. The original film's director David Frankel, is also in talks to return.
Right now, much of the report is just rumors, but it seems like the movie is actually happening. We have some ideas about how that should go.
1. Stanley Tucci
If there's one thing a Devil Wears Prada sequel must have it's the wise and hilarious Nigel as played by Stanley Tucci! He's literally the heart of the movie! We don't even want to think about what Miranda would do without him, and we refuse to consider a version of this movie without him.
2. News that Andy's boyfriend has died
Is there a worse movie boyfriend than Adrian Grenier's Nate? Probably, but that doesn't mean we still don't hate him for trying to sabotage and undermine Andy's passion and career at every turn. The only involvement this character should have in the sequel is news that he is no longer with us.
3. Miranda Priestly at the top of her game
According to Puck, who first reported that the sequel was happening, the plot will follow Miranda Priestly "at the end of her career, facing the decline of traditional magazine publishing" as "she's forced to go head-to-head with her former assistant, Blunt's Emily Charlton, now a high-powered executive at a Kering or LVMH-style luxury group, whose advertising dollars Priestly desperately needs."
Honestly, we don't want to see that. We love Miranda Priestly as the powerful, successful, genius icon that she is. We don't want to see her on her knees begging, we want her standing tall over every other character in the movie. Can't women have anything?!
4. Cameos from trans and queer fashion icons
With trans and queer models like Julia Fox, Hari Nef, Indya Moore, and Leyna Bloom, as well as stylist Law Roach taking over the fashion world, we'd love to see some of them have cameo roles as themselves in the new movie!
5. A cameo from Anne Hathaway
While it seems like Hathaway's Andy won't be returning for the sequel, we really can't imagine the movie without at least a small scene letting us know where she's at and how she's doing! Is she a successful writer or editor now? Does she ever talk to Miranda, Emily, or Nigel? Please, just give us even the tiniest update and we'll be happy!
