Humidity across Central Florida will still push the heat index over 100 on Tuesday, but temperatures will be lower as the region expects a spate of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

“It`ll be ‘cooler’ today compared to the last several days but it`ll still be hot with afternoon temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s and heat index values between 100-107 under mostly cloudy skies,” said NWS meteorologist Kole Fehling. “This level of heat can affect anyone without adequate precautions. It is recommended to take frequent breaks from the heat and drink plenty of fluids.”

The east coast sea breeze is forecast to be light as it moves inland bringing the greatest chance for afternoon and evening thunderstorms east of Interstate 4 and on the Space Coast.

The slow moving showers could mean 1 to 3 inches of rain in some areas with isolated spots with more than 4 inches that could result in minor flooding.

Some isolated strong storms will be capable of wind gusts up to 40 mph and occasional to frequent lightning strikes.

Overnight lows are forecast to be in the upper 70s and Wednesday highs are expected to creep back up to the low to mid-90s.
