Two men were killed and another injured in a shootout early Tuesday believed tied to drugs at an apartment complex near Kissimmee, according to Osceola Sheriff Marcos Lopez.

Just after midnight, deputies received a call about gunshots fired at the Rapallo apartment complex on Marta Circle near The Loop shopping center, Lopez said at a press conference Tuesday morning.

Upon arrival, deputies found two men between the ages of 20 and 30 with gunshot wounds in one of the corridors of the apartment complex and a third man who was shot under some bushes, Lopez said.

The sheriff said one of the men found in the corridor died from his injuries on scene and the other was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, he said. The third man was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition is unknown.

Lopez said investigators have a person of interest in custody.

He said the incident was isolated and believed related to drugs based on the nature of evidence found on scene. The men were known to each other but only one lived at the complex, the others were not from the area.

“It was basically a shootout like an open corral,” Lopez said. “You know it’s crazy because there’s a lot of citizens, people that live here but thank god there was hardly nobody out there during those hours when the incident occurred.”

Lopez said there is no active threat to the community and the Sheriff’s Office believes it has everyone involved in custody, but the investigation ongoing.

“As we piece this together we’ll have a little bit more of a story of what and how this happened,” he said.
