The Magic on Saturday officially signed No. 18 pick Tristan da Silva to his rookie-scale contract, the team announced.
Da Silva, who averaged 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds 2.4 assists and 1.15 steals during 33.9 minutes in 34 games as a senior at Colorado, spent four years in college before fully committing to the NBA draft.
It was a combination of his size, physicality and basketball IQ that heavily drew Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman, general manager Anthony Parker and coach Jamahl Mosley to da Silva throughout the pre-draft process.
As the No. 18 overall pick in the draft, da Silva will have a first-year projected salary of $3.6 million and will earn $17.5 million over four years if he signed to the maximum 120% of the rookie scale.
At 6-foot-9 with a 6-10 wingspan, da Silva fits the blueprint of what Orlando searched for when building its current roster that finished No. 5 in the East last season and helped the franchise return to the playoffs for the first time in four years.
The Magic will have the first chance to see da Silva, 23, in action at Summer League in Las Vegas starting later this week. He will join sophomores Anthony Black and Jett Howard on a young squad coached by Orlando assistant Lionel Chalmers.
