GAINESVILLE — Florida coach Todd Golden will award 6-foot-1 Slovenian guard Urban Klavzar the Gators’ final scholarship for the 2024-25 season.

A source confirmed Klavzar will join the Gators and bolster an experienced backcourt.

The 20-year-old averaged 8.9 points, 1.5 assists and 18.3 minutes during 33 appearances this past season for CD Estela Cantabria in Primera FEB in the Spanish basketball league’s second division. He shot 47.7% from the field, including 42.7% from 3-point range.

He also played in seven games for the Slovenian National Team during the Under-20 European Championship, averaging 15.4 points, 3.9 assists and 2.1 rebounds while shooting 37.5% from beyond the arc.

Klavzar aims to impact an experienced backcourt featuring three established seniors, Walter Clayton Jr., the Gators’ leading scorer in 2023-24, long-ranger shooter Will Richard and athletic FAU transfer Alijah Martin. Point guard Denzel Aberdeen, a junior and former standout at Dr. Phillips, will be a key rotational player if he cannot earn a starting role.

Meanwhile, shooting guard Isaiah Brown of Orlando Christian Prep committed to Golden’s 2024 class. The 6-foot-5 Brown helped lead his team to a state runner-up finish in 2023-24.
