Lanai-lounging gator gets stuck under patio table, then takes dip in pool

Florida resident Tim Kelly awoke last week to a growling noise, then looked out on his lanai and, saw a 7- to 9-foot alligator stuck under an end table outside his Pinellas County home, according to media reports.

The alligator was about halfway underneath the coffee table on Kelly’s lanai on March 26 when its bulbous midsection got wedged in between the table legs, photos posted WTVT-News Channel 13 showed.

“He must have went through it and it got stuck on him, and he wasn’t very happy,” Kelly told WTVT. “I got to tell you, when he was right there and he was stuck in that, I was like, ‘Wow, now what am I going to do?’ “

Kelly called the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to remove the reptile. However, the alligator decided to take a dip in the pool before the FWC arrived so Kelly and his wife sat back and enjoyed the show.

“Next thing you know, we hear a splash and it jumped in the pool and started taking a swim,” Kelly told WOFL-News Channel 35. “We were just having our coffee and watching him swim around.”

Kelly told WTVT the gator would swim around the pool, rest on the steps, “then sink to the bottom again.”

FWC arrived, wrangled and removed the wayward reptile.
