The Miami Dolphins are bringing back a veteran defender who played for the team during the first season of the Brian Flores era.

The Dolphins and defensive tackle John Jenkins have agreed to a one-year deal, a league source confirmed to the South Florida Sun Sentinel on Thursday.

Jenkins was a rotational defender, playing all 16 games of the 2019 season for the Dolphins, producing 34 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack with five starts. He played in 11 games for the Chicago Bears last season.

Jenkins returns to play a similar role he had in 2019, bolstering a defensive tackle rotation which includes Christian Wilkins, Raekwon Davis and Zach Sieler.

Newcomer Adam Butler, who joins Miami after playing for Flores with the New England Patriots, and second-year backup Benito Jones are also on the Dolphins roster at the defensive tackle position.

Jenkins entered the league as a third-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2013, and has also played for the Seattle Seahawks, Bears, and New York Giants.

Jenkins, 31, is the only Dolphins player over the age of 30 on the roster.

Former starting and backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was 38 last season, while former linebacker Kyle Van Noy turned 30 shortly after being released last month.
