Central Oregon officials have lowered an evacuation order after partially containing a 458-acre wildfire near Redmond.
The McCaffrey fire began Saturday immediately east of the Redmond Municipal Airport, prompting the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office to issue a “Go Now!” evacuation order Saturday afternoon for parts of the county. The order was lowered to “Be Set” to evacuate by around 6 p.m. Sunday. The fire is 25% contained, according to Central Oregon Fire Information. The airport was closed for about five hours Saturday as a result of the fire, Airport Director Zackary Bass said.
Another Oregon fire in southern Oregon, 10 miles east of Eagle Point, is burning across about 1,500 acres, the Oregon Department of Forestry said Monday morning. When the Salt Creek fire was first reported Sunday afternoon, it was only about two to five acres large, but grew quickly. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has ordered “Get Ready” evacuation notices for part of the county.
