Horrendous heat continues Tuesday as Portland continues its streak of record-breaking temperatures. But some relief is on the way.

The National Weather Service says hot weather will peak Tuesday with highs reaching toward 105 degrees in most valley locations. The coast remains the cool spot in the state with temperatures reaching the low 70s in most locations.

Portland residents may wake to an already warm morning as overnight lows didn’t dip below 70 degrees in most urban areas. Under sunny skies, temps will heat up quickly and could reach near 100 by lunchtime. The high will be about 103 with temps of 105 likely in many metro areas.

The strong ridge of high pressure that’s been cooking the region since the weekend will slowly move eastward and cross the Cascades by the evening. This will help increase onshore flow and slowly bring cooler air from the coast into the Willamette Valley.

No clouds are expected on Wednesday, even though a cooler air mass will be moving into the region. This air should help Portland see highs in the low 90s. Portland’s official high temp forecast is 91, which should feel like a bit of relief over the 100+ highs we saw earlier in the week.

The really good news is that overnight lows will actually feel cool with Wednesday night’s temps dropping to 62 degrees.

Thursday will be another sunny day with temperature moving back toward seasonal averages. The high should reach about 86 degrees.

Extended forecasts are showing a continuation of above average temps and clear, sunny days Friday and into the weekend. Highs will range from the high 80s to low 90s.
