Dave Killen | The Oregonian/OregonLive

Dave Killen is a photographer and video producer at The Oregonian and winner of an Award of Excellence in the General News category in POYi 78. He has photographed numerous breaking news events since joining The Oregonian in 2011, including the Malheur National Wildlife refuge occupation in 2015, countless protests in Portland throughout Donald Trump’s presidency, and the city’s nightly George Floyd demonstrations in 2020. He has also directed, photographed and edited three long-form documentary video projects at the paper: “Thin Ice,” which addressed climate change through the experience of one orphaned polar bear; “Ghosts of Highway 20,” a five-part series examining the victims of Oregon serial killer John Ackroyd; and "No Mercy," an investigation into the horrific abuse suffered by Tania Culver Humphrey at the hands of her father, Mercy Corps International co-founder Ellsworth Culver. Killen received a bachelor’s degree in film editing from Hampshire College in 2000 and previously worked in television production in New York City and Minneapolis. A native Northwesterner, he lives in Portland with his wife Lauren and their dogs Monty and Tristan. Killen believes that Bruce Springsteen is the superior songwriter vis-a-vis Bob Dylan and that frankly, it's not really even all that close.
