Oregon State quarterback recruiting market: Bearish for 2025, bullish for 2026

Oregon State is running out of options to land a quarterback for its 2025 recruiting class after Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele announced Monday that he’ll attend California.

Keawe Sagapolutele, a three-star prospect from Hawaii, was the only uncommitted prospect from the more than a dozen quarterback offers OSU made for the upcoming class.

The Beavers are ahead of the game for 2026, however, as California quarterback Deagan Rose committed last week. Rose, a rising junior from Clovis (California) High, had more than a dozen offers, including Oregon, Utah, Arizona and Arizona State.

Keawe Sagapolutele made official visits to OSU, Boise State, California and Utah State in recent weeks, before announcing his college decision Monday. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Keawe Sagapolutele has passed for 7,279 yards and 68 touchdowns the past two seasons at James Campbell High in Ewa Beach, Hawaii.

Oregon State currently has four scholarship quarterbacks on its 2024 roster in juniors Gevani McCoy and Ben Gulbranson, second-year freshman Gabarri Johnson and freshman Kallen Gutridge, plus walk-ons Jake Sanders and Dom Montiel.

The 6-foot-3 Rose, a dual threat quarterback, is already a two-year starter in high school. At Clovis last season, Rose passed for 2,894 yards and 24 touchdowns. For his career, Rose has passed for 5,323 yards and 50 touchdowns.

The challenge will be retaining Rose, as the current early signing period for his class December 2025, some 17 months away.
