The seven deadly tornadoes that touched down in southern Kentucky last week damaged hundreds of miles of property, shattering records.

The National Weather Service (NWS) confirms 255 miles of tornado damage was reported from the May 26 storms. The outbreak surpassed Feb 29, 2012 and Dec 10, 2021 for the number of miles tornadoes tracked across the area.

Five people were killed in the Memorial Day weekend storms and thousands were left without power.

“The storm knocked out power for thousands of Kentuckians, temporarily shut down numerous roads and interstates, and caused massive damage to homes and businesses," Gov. Andry Beshear said. "But like we always see after severe weather events, first responders and everyday Kentuckians rally to help each other in those toughest moments."
