Ever since they stepped back from their roles as senior royals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have frequently made announcements about their many personal milestones, as well as offered business updates.

Something which is often pointed out, however, is the number of times that Harry and Meghan have issued these statements or planned the release of news which has coincided exactly with a high profile event for the Royal Family.

This trend has seen one leading royal expert to reflect on the fact that the couple are becoming "increasingly irrelevant" as the Royal Family turn their attention to supporting those in greater need with heartfelt gestures.

"I can’t honestly imagine that they are sitting there scheming to make announcements on the same day as a royal event. Surely they are bigger than that?", former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond questions.

"It’s true that there have been some rather strange coincidences in the past about the timing of some of their announcements. But I think they are becoming less and less relevant to the news over here, and the Royal Family will command the attention every time."

Over the years, the couple have raised eyebrows after they made announcements which have clashed with important or significant days for the Royal Family.

These have included a recent product release which clashed with Trooping the Colour when the Princess of Wales was making her first appearance since undergoing treatment for cancer and the decision to announce Meghan's luxury lifestyle brand American Riveria Orchard shortly before Prince William spoke at an awards ceremony in honour of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

In recent weeks, however, the Royal Family has made it clear where their loyalties lie after a series of busy events in the royal calendar.

During Royal Ascot week recently, one move melted hearts above all others as King Charles decided to take Lady Gabriella Kingston under his wing by asking her to ride in one of the carriages on day one of the procession.

The move came after the sad death by suicide of Lady Gabriella's husband, Thomas Kingston, at the age of 45 back in February.

"The death of Gabriella’s husband shocked the whole family, and I’m sure they have all tried to help in what is a deeply sensitive situation," Jennie says. "But what a lovely gesture by the King to invite her into the carriage - and on the first day of Royal Ascot.

"It’s a unique way for Charles to show is support and affection for Gabriella and a brave decision on her part to make such a very public appearance. She must be a strong woman.

"What said it all, though, was the massive hug Zara gave her which was so obviously full of love, sympathy and support. I think it showed the family have been and are doing all they can to help her through this devastating time."
