Sandra Amelia Eberhard OBITUARY

Sandra Amelia (Farran) Eberhard (b.July 7, 1936) died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 5, 2024. She lived to 87 (today would have been her 88th birthday). Sandra was born in Detroit, Michigan, to father, Abdon, and mother, Belinda. She was the third of five children, with older brother Bob (d.2003), older sister Rhoda, and younger sisters, Brenda and Patricia.In 1954 she graduated from Immaculata High School in Detroit and then entered the convent where she spent the next 13 years serving God and her Catholic faith. While studying for her M.A. at the University of San Francisco she met Kenneth D. Eberhard. They were married on July 20, 1968, and had three children, Elizabeth (b.1969), Ken Jr. (b.1972), and Catherine (b.1976), and moved to Huntington Beach, California.After 30 years in Huntington Beach, Sandy and Ken built their dream home in Shady Canyon, Irvine. As members of the Shady Canyon Golf Club, they spent many days on the golf course making friends, participating in tournaments, and traveling around the world.In 2011, her beloved Ken passed away. She spent the following years enjoying frequent visits with her children and grandchildren, celebrating the holidays, visiting her sisters, exchanging emails with friends, doing puzzles, and rooting for her favorite football teams – the USC Trojans, the Los Angeles Rams, and the Detroit Lions.Throughout her life she actively supported many philanthropies including Share Our Selves, Habitat for Humanity, and the IHM Sisters of Monroe, Michigan. Her legacy was her kindness, compassion, joy of family, and commitment to serve others before herself. She is survived by her three sisters, Rhoda Hastings, Brenda Heenan, and Patti Trumbull, and her three children, Elizabeth Gassel (husband, James), Kenneth Eberhard (wife, Yih-Mei) and Catherine May (husband, Christopher), and her 8 grandchildren, Grace, Sarah, Stuart, Amanda, Andrew, Annalise, Avalon, and Addison.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support the GoFundMe of Ben Myers, Sandra’s nephew who is battling cancer: https://www.gofundme.com/f/88zx8-ben-myersA celebration of life will be held at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 9 Hillgate Street, Irvine, CA 92612, on Saturday, July 13 at 11 am.
