UPDATED:

A pair of cyclists and their three children they were towing were struck and injured by a car in Garden Grove on Sunday, and a Santa Ana man was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and driving under the influence.

The family was riding E-Bikes in the area near Haster Street and Twintree Lane around 7:30 p.m. when they were all struck by a black 2003 Toyota Camry,  said Garden Grove Police Sgt. Nick Jensen. Both adults had carriers on their bikes and were towing the children. None of the victims were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, Jensen said.

“I was in my room when I heard the bang. I came out running… as soon as I got to the street I saw a man who was bleeding from his head,” resident Keyonna Nunez told freelance news agency OC Hawk. “There were kids on the floor, (it was) bloody everywhere.”

“It was genuinely just really scary,” she said.

The driver fled and a bystander followed the sedan and notified authorities of its whereabouts, Jensen said.

The man was arrested around a mile from the crash and was suspected to be under in the influence.

He was identified as 29-year-old Ceferino Ramos.

The Toyota had damage to the front end of the vehicle believed to have been caused by the crash, Jensen said.

All five victims were taken to a hospital, with the father, 27, and two children — a 5-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl — remaining in critical condition on Monday, Jensen said. The mother, 25, and an infant were reported to be stable with the mother being released on Monday.

Garden Grove Police have asked that anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has video footage to contact Investigator Yergler by phone at 714-741-5772 or by email at Johny@ggpd.org
