UPDATED:

HomeAid Orange County is looking for lots of diapers and baby food to help families living in Orange County homeless shelters.

To make it happen, the nonprofit is hosting its annual diaper drive between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, June 7 at The District at Tustin Legacy.

The Tustin-based nonprofit says it has an urgent need for diapers, wipes and baby food to give to at-risk families in Orange County.

Orange County’s homeless population increased 28% in the last two years, according to the latest “point in time count” results released in early May by county officials.

HomeAid said its goal this year is to collect 1 million items to help families with babies and toddlers living in local shelters.

The county’s survey counted 347 families, including 685 children, among the homeless. Most – at 291 – were in some sort of shelter. Nearly 100 children  (99) were still counted among those living on the streets.

The diaper drive on Friday is a drive-through and drop-off event at which donors will see a variety of diaper-themed structures built by local homebuilders, law enforcement and building trades. The event will also include food, music and awards for the best of the diaper structures.
