A 23-year-old man was charged Tuesday, May 19, on suspicion of fatally stabbing a 17-year-old girl he knew in Anaheim on Saturday night.

Miguel Angel Reyes was charged with voluntary manslaughter with sentencing enhancements for committing an offense while out of custody and for the personal use of a deadly weapon, according to court records. He is accused of stabbing Jolina Ramirez of Anaheim, said Carrie Braun of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Police were called at 8:30 p.m. Saturday regarding a fight, said Anaheim Police Sgt. Shane Carringer. Reyes and Ramirez knew each other, but it is unclear what prompted the dispute, Carringer said.

The conflict started in Ponderosa Park, where the victim was with a group of friends, Carringer said. The dispute escalated and led to Ramirez getting stabbed at Leatrice Lane and Haster Street, Carringer said.

Ramirez was rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, but she was pronounced dead shortly after she arrived, Carringer said.
