The USMNT is awaiting a medical report after goalkeeper Matt Turner was forced off with injury in the defeat to Panama on Thursday.

The 30-year-old was withdrawn at half-time of the 2-1 defeat at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Thursday after being involved in a heavy collision with Panama’s Cesar Blackman.

The incident saw Turner hit the turf hard before he received treatment from medical staff on what appeared to be shoulder and left-leg injuries.

Turner, who plays for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, played on until the half but was then replaced by Ethan Horvath.

“It was a nice challenge by the attacker that didn’t even get a caution, which was really surprising,” Gregg Berhalter said after the game.

“Think about that: he knocks Matt out of the game and nothing. But again, that is what it is. But Matt couldn’t continue on.”

Pressed on Turner’s possible availability for what is now a crucial game with Uruguay on Monday night, Berhalter said: “We don’t know his status. We’ll get a report from the medical team later this evening. We’re not sure.”

Turner has 42 caps for the USMNT since making his debut in February of 2021. He started and played 90 minutes as the U.S. opened their tournament with a 2-0 win over Bolivia on Sunday.

Horvath, who plays his club football for Cardiff City in the English Championship, made his 10th national team appearance in the game against Panama.
