Dear readers,

The Premier League and Champions League are over for another season but the summer of 2024 is packed full of live action and transfer fun and games — and we’ll cover it all in detail on The Athletic.

From Europe’s major clubs travelling across the world (and to the United States in particular) to all the moves (and nearly moves) of the summer transfer window, plus two major international tournaments, Emma Hayes starting her reign as USWNT head coach and the Olympics, our team of reporters will bring you in-depth coverage of the things you care about.

We’ll be on the ground in Germany for Euro 2024; across the U.S. for Copa America, MLS, NWSL and Premier League pre-season; in Paris, France for the summer Olympic Games’ football action, and everywhere in between — ensuring you don’t miss a thing when it comes to the beautiful game.

The club content you know and love won’t stop either. Our trusted team of reporters will hit the phones to bring you the latest moves in the transfer window as we embark on an ambitious project to cover the summer ins and outs like never before.

And it doesn’t stop there.

You might already follow our NFL, NBA or NHL coverage, but did you know we also cover a range of other sports, including golf, Formula 1 and tennis? Mark out July 14 in your diaries for a day of wall-to-wall sport with the men’s singles final from Wimbledon, as well as the finals of Euro 2024 and Copa America.

Here are just some of the things you’ll have to look forward to over the next few weeks, and how we’ll be covering them across The Athletic — plus, if you are interested, we have a welcome offer to become a subscriber if you haven’t yet jumped aboard. Let me know what else you would like to see in the comments below.

Thanks for your support — and enjoy the summer. It’s going to be fun…

Euro 2024, Copa America and USWNT

We will have full coverage of the European Championship from Germany and the Copa America, based across the United States. We’ll also be across the early days of Hayes’ tenure as head coach of the USWNT as she takes in friendlies in June and July before their bid for Olympic gold in France.

The Euros will be packed full of Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 stars, while Lionel Messi will get the chance to follow up his record-breaking MLS season at Inter Miami by looking to retain its South American equivalent with Argentina.

How will The Athletic cover the international games?

At the Euros, we will have a team of reporters based in Germany for the tournament, which starts on June 14 and ends on July 14.

For the Copa America, our writers will be stationed across the U.S., covering how the USMNT, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and the rest get on from June 20 to July 14, when the final will be held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

For the USWNT’s friendlies against South Korea, Mexico and Costa Rica, we’ll have our full team of writers in attendance to give their impressions of the new era. What’s Hayes got right? What’s she got wrong? How will it all affect their Olympic plans?

Plus, The Radar scouting guide will return.

Our 2022 World Cup version proved an excellent companion detailing the background, data and playing style of the stars who were being talked about. This summer, we’ll profile those expected to play important roles in both Euro 2024 and the Copa.

If you would prefer to listen to our coverage, we’ve got you covered too. The Totally Football Show will run every night during the Euros, with The Athletic FC podcast coming to you every weekday to dive into the biggest issues in world football. If your time is scarce (don’t worry, we get it), try The Daily Football Briefing to get up to date with what’s going on in less than 10 minutes.

As if that isn’t enough, we’ve also relaunched Full Time with Meg Linehan to bring you the latest in the women’s game.

Premier League pre-season tours

Which clubs are going where?

The United States is the destination of choice for many clubs this summer, with Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal confirming they will be heading there and facing off against each other while Manchester City and Chelsea will take part in the Soccer Champions Tour alongside Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan.

Wrexham, too, will also be in attendance in the States again after last year’s wildly successful tour there.
