It’s not an Ayk-rimonious split.
Dan Aykroyd and Donna Dixon told People they have decided to separate after close to 40 years of marriage, but intend to stay legally married.
“After 39 years as a couple we are now on separate life paths,” the Emmy-winning “Saturday Night Live” alum, 69, and “Bosom Buddies” actress, 64, told the outlet in a joint statement. “We remain legally married, co-parents, co-workers and business partners.”
The actors, who met on the set of the 1983 film “Doctor Detroit” and married that year, said the move is their “choice in loving friendship.”
The “Ghostbusters” star and Dixon also appeared together in films like “Spies Like Us” and “Exit to Eden.”
Together, Aykroyd and Dixon are parents to three adult daughters: Danielle, 32, Belle, 28, and Stella, 24. Danielle is a singer who goes by the stage name Vera Sola.
This isn’t the first transition Aykroyd and family have undergone in recent months.
Peter Aykroyd, Dan’s younger brother and an Emmy-nominated “Saturday Night Live” alum in his own right, died in November. He was 66.
The Aykroyds appeared together in films including “Doctor Detroit,” “Spies Like Us,” and “Coneheads.”
