Man fatally shot in barrage of bullets near Brooklyn housing project

A man died after he was shot multiple times on a Brooklyn street Sunday, and police said they arrested a suspect in the case.

The 33-year-old victim was on the corner of Hicks and Mill Sts. near the Red Hook Houses in Red Hook when gunfire erupted about 6:40 p.m., cops said.

The assailant fired off at least five shots, striking the victim multiple times in the torso and arm, police and sources said.

Medics rushed to the scene and loaded the critically wounded man into an ambulance where they began CPR in an attempt to save his life.

“That’s my brother!” shouted a distraught man as he pounded on the windows of the ambulance. “I’m right here with you, bro. I’m right here.”

The victim was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn but he could not be saved.

Officers who rushed to the scene chased the suspected gunman on foot and placed him under arrest. His name is being withheld pending charges, cops said.

In the aftermath of the shooting, shell casings, a cell phone and a Gucci baseball cap littered the bloodied sidewalk.

The victim’s name is being held pending family notification.
